TransGuide operations, which began in July 1995 on 26 miles of San Antonio freeways, have so far resulted in a 15 percent reduction in accidents, according to a Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) study.

A leader in design, development, and deployment of Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) has been implementing ATMS since the early 1990s. SwRI integrates new technologies and equipment into existing ATMS and Traffic Management Centers (TMC).

SwRI is also active in the development and administration of state and national standards for ATMS.
